SHIVA 🔱

Lord Shiva, also known as Mahadev (the great god), is one of the principal deities in Hinduism and a part of the Holy Trinity (Trimurti)—alongside Brahma (the creator) and Vishnu (the preserver). Shiva is known as the destroyer and transformer, symbolizing the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.

🕉️ Major Stories of Lord Shiva

1. The Creation of Shiva LingaOnce, Brahma and Vishnu argued about who was supreme. To test them, Shiva appeared as an infinite column of fire (Lingodbhava). Neither could find the beginning or end of the flame, proving Shiva’s infinite nature. This story explains the origin of the Shiva Linga, worshipped in temples.

2. Marriage with Parvati

After the death of Sati (his first wife), Shiva withdrew from the world. Sati was reborn as Parvati, who performed severe penance to win Shiva’s heart again. Their union represents the balance of masculine and feminine energies.

3. Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean)

When gods and demons churned the ocean for nectar, a deadly poison (Halahala) emerged. To save the world, Shiva drank the poison and held it in his throat, turning it blue. Hence, he is called Neelkanth (the blue-throated one).

4. Killing of Tripurasura

Three demon brothers (Tripurasuras) built floating cities and terrorized the universe. Shiva destroyed them with a single arrow, earning the name Tripurantaka—destroyer of the three cities.

5. Ardhanarishvara

This form of Shiva is half-male and half-female, symbolizing the union of Purusha (man) and Prakriti (nature). It highlights gender equality and the completeness of creation through balance.
